Liposuction
What is Liposuction ?
Liposuction, sometimes known as liposculpture is a way of sculpting the body to change its shape. Liposuction was invented by the Italian cosmetic surgeon, Dr Giorgio Fischer and further developed by American dermatologist, Dr Jeffrey Klein. It is not a substitute for losing weight, rather a means of getting rid of localised fat that doesn't respond to exercise or diet.
Most common areas treated are;
- Abdomen
- Buttocks
- Hips
- Thighs
- Knees
- Calves
- Ankles.
Liposuction removes unwanted fat by using vacuum suction. The fatty deposits are injected with quantities of a solution of local anaesthetic and saline. The fat is sucked out through a fine hollow tube called a cannula.
Who is suitable ?
If you are not unduly overweight but want to change your body shape, you are a good candidate. While ages is no barrier to having liposuction, for best results it is important that your skin has good tone, in other words, it Is elastic and firm. Loose or hanging skin will not be removed with liposuction. Also, it is not a remedy for cellulite.
During your consultation, the doctor will ask about your medical history and explain what liposuction can and cannot achieve in your particular circumstances.
