Face Lift
What is a Face Lift ?
Surgeons categorise facelifts according to the area of the face they are to address.
- A lower third and neck lift tightens the neck, redefines the jawline and improves sagging jowls.
- A mid facelift addresses sagging in the upper cheeks.
- Brow lifts raise the level of the eyebrows and improve wrinkling in the forehead.
- There are also mini-lifts which are often performed on younger patients.
In the past the facelift was more likely to be a skin tightening process, however surgeons began to realise that the problem of the sagging face was due to a laxity in the supporting muscles and tissues, pulling the skin out of shape and down.
New techniques for facelifting have since been developed. Most of these techniques tighten the muscles and soft tissue underneath the skin, which gives a more natural look.
Who is suitable ?
If you have experienced a loss of skin elasticity and muscle tone of
the face and neck or have developed facial and neck wrinkles you may
benefit from a facelift. The surgery can reduce the appearance of jowls
and deep creases between the base of the nose and the corner of the
mouth, restore or create a youthful chin and neck contours, and improve
a tired facial appearance.
A facelift can be performed under general anaesthetic or under sedation with local anaesthetic. You should expect a recovery period of between two to three weeks. The results should be long-lasting - up to 10 years or more depending on the type of facelift, and your overall health and lifestyle.
