About

We can be born with birthmarks or as we age skin colour irregularities becomes more obvious. Even though genetics can determine some of our skin discolouration, UV light is a large factor for creating hyperpigmention particularly seen on skin areas exposed daily – face, décolletage and hands. There are many factors creating or influencing skin pigmentation including certain medications which can increase your skin sensitivity to sun and may increase your chances of uneven skin tone.

Skin colour changes can be due to hormones especially during pregnancy where women can notice dark skin patches on their face sometimes called "mask of pregnancy". Other pigmentations are birthmarks which can be light (Café-au-lait spots) or dark coloured with various sizes and shapes. Moles, freckles and brown spots can also appear at birth. Freckles can also become more obvious (darker or increase amount) after excessive sun exposure.

Available Treatments

Different types of skin pigmentation have their own issues and may need to be correctly identified and treated accordingly.
